Hyder Ali

Hyder Ali was born in 1722 AD at a place called Bundikot in Mysore State. When he grew up, he joined the army of Mysore state. He kept on progressing due to his ability and in 1761 AD he concentrated all the power of Mysore state in his hands. The British wanted to establish their dominance over South India. But Hyder Ali was determined to maintain the independence of the Mysore state. As a result two wars were fought between Hyder Ali and the British.

Hyder Ali defeated the British at many places in the First Anglo-Mysore War and the Second Anglo-Mysore War and showed his fighting skills. Hyder Ali was a brave warrior, capable ruler and a skilled politician. When the British formed a union against Hyder Ali with the Nizam and Marathas in 1776 AD, he disbanded this union with diplomacy. Hyder Ali was a liberal and religious tolerant man and respected all religions. He was a capable ruler and was always striving for the moral and material progress of the subjects. Hyder Ali died in 1782 AD during the Second Anglo-Mysore War.
